Tax Preparation Assistance

United Way of Steele County is proud to offer Free Tax Preparation Services to low-income residents of Steele County. We have a few different options for how we can assist you.  Please complete the form below and we will reach out to you with these options. This service is FREE and available for households that earned less than $84,000 in 2024.

Tax Services We Can Provide:

• 2024 Federal (Individual) Income Taxes
• 2024 State (Individual) Income Taxes
• 2024 MN Property Tax (Homestead Credit) Refund
  • For MN Homeowners - 2024 Household total income less than $139,320
• 2024 MN Renter's Property Tax Refund
  • For MN Renters - 2024 Household total income less than $75,390
  • RENTERS: Minnesota has updated the filing process starting with 2024. You will not need to file an M1PR meaning your credit will not be separate from your income tax refund or amount owed going forward. Click here for more information.

Drop Off Option: United Way of Steele County has 2 drop off locations to assist households in area communities. Intake process will be required, so please plan for drop off to take approximately 10 minutes. Locations are:

• Albert Lea: Senior Resources of Freeborn County (901 Luther Pl, Albert Lea)
• Faribault: Buckham West Senior Center (19 Division St W, Faribault)

Free Online Option:
For those who wish to file online themselves, file your federal and state for free at http://www.myfreetaxes.com (for households that earned less than $84,000 in 2024).
