How to Apply

Step 1 — Review Eligibility & Outcomes

Ensure your program aligns with United Way of Steele County impact areas and outcomes below. Applications should demonstrate data-informed strategies, service to ALICE households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), and plans for equitable access.

Step 2 — Prepare Application Materials
  • Complete the Printable Application (PDF).
  • Gather required attachments listed in the Checklist.
  • Draft measurable outcomes and an evaluation plan with quarterly reporting.
Step 3 — Submit Online (when portal opens)

When the portal opens, you will paste your prepared responses and upload attachments. A link will appear at the top of this page.

Our Impact Areas & Outcomes

Healthy Community

  • Improved Access to Healthcare and Mental Health Support: Increase the percentage of residents with access to primary care services and mental health services.
  • Comprehensive Health Improvement: Increase the percentage of residents who have access to healthy food options, participate in regular physical activity programs, and receive preventive health screenings and vaccinations.

Youth Opportunity

  • Child Development and Care Improvement: Increase the number of children enrolled in high-quality early childhood education programs and enhance access to affordable quality childcare.
  • Mentorship Programs: Expand the number of youths participating in mentorship and leadership development programs.
  • Youth Success and Employment Enhancement: Increase high school graduation rates and the percentage of youth engaged in employment or vocational training or post-secondary programs.

Financial Security

  • Economic Empowerment and Employment: Increase the number of households achieving a living wage, improve financial literacy rates among community members, and increase the number of individuals placed in stable, full-time employment.
  • Affordable Housing: Increase the availability of affordable housing units and providing housing stability in the process of achieving long term housing security.

Community Resiliency

  • Emergency Preparedness and Support: Increase the number of households with emergency preparedness plans, enhance the availability and accessibility of support networks for vulnerable populations, and boost the number of community members trained in emergency response and disaster preparedness.
  • Community Engagement and Social Cohesion: Boost participation in community-building activities and volunteerism, increase the number of volunteers engaged in community service projects, and improve the sense of community and social support networks through increased participation in community events and activities.

Outcome Reporting: Grantees will report on participation, outputs, and outcomes; data informs continuous improvement and community dashboards.
