Advancing the Common Good:
Creating Opportunities for a Better Life for All

Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life; a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.  That’s why United Way’s work is focused on the building blocks for a good life:

  • Education: Helping children and youth reach their potential.

Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It is essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits. It Is fundamental to a community's economic prosperity: a well-educated workforce attracts world-class jobs.  Today's students are the employees and parents of tomorrow. United Way investments help young people grow up strong, confident and skilled.

  • Income: Promoting financial stability leading towards independence.

As many as one-third of working Americans do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. These individuals are walking a financial tightrope - they are barely able to get by, with no ability to save for college, a home, or for retirement.  A struggling family is focused on survival. United Way helps people access services to obtain resources in times of crisis and work toward self-sufficiency.

  • Health: Improving people's emotional, mental and physical well-being.

United Way addresses pressing health issues facing communities across the country.  Family members and friends support each other in rough times but there are situations where other community resources and supports are needed.  United Way helps people get stabilized, learn coping skills, focus on healthy life decisions and access health related services.

United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems. Living United means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future.
